Aliferis Memorial Race
About the Event
Set in beautiful Northeast Michigan, the Aliferis Memorial Race is open to runners, walkers and bikers of all ages and ability levels. It is named in memory of long-time Alpena Pathologist Dr. Peter Aliferis. Dr. Aliferis earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan and joined the hospital in 1963, serving for many years as the pathologies and laboratory director. He touched the lives of many in our community during his 37-year tenure. This race is a celebration of his steadfast dedication to health and wellness.
All proceeds will benefit the Peter Aliferis Scholarship Fund, the Cancer Center and patient enhancement projects and new technology at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Registration and material distribution on the morning of the race is located on the campus of MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, under the big tent on the corner of Chisholm/US-23 and Johnson Street. Check in begins at 7:00 am and continues until events begin.
Join fellow runners on September 5, 2026 for the Aliferis Memorial Race. It's a fantastic Half-Marathon, 29.8K, 10.5K, 1.6K, 5K featuring a flat and fast course in Alpena.

Aliferis Half Marathon
Courtesy bus ride to Half Marathon starting line leaves at 6:30 am from the Medical Center. Course includes paved streets, gravel roads and natural trails of Alpena County. Check-in and material distribution begins at 6:00 am and continues until race begins. Race starts at 7:00 am and finishes at the Medical Center.
Aliferis 1 Mile Run/Walk
The 1 Mile Walk/Run leaves from the race registration area and follows a course near MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. Check-in and material distribution begins at 7:00 am and continues until the race begins. Event starts at 10:00 am and is not timed.
Aliferis 5K Run/Walk
5K Run/Walk leaves from the Medical Center and follows a course through the streets of Alpena. Check-in and material distribution begins at 7:00 am and continues until the race begins. Event starts at 9:15 am and finishes at the Medical Center.
Cycling
Aliferis 18.5 Mile Bike Race
Bike Race leaves from the Medical Center on paved streets and continues onto the gravel roads and natural trails of Alpena County. Check-in and material distribution begins at 7:00 am and continues until race begins. Race starts at 8:00 am and finishes at the Medical Center.
Aliferis 6.5 Mile Bike Tour
Bike Tour leaves from the Medical Center. The route takes you through the paved streets and roadways of Alpena County, finishing at the Medical Center. Check-in and material distribution begins at 7:00 am and continues until the tour begins. Bike Tour starts at 8:15 am and is not timed.
