About this race

Everyone lifts before they run. You bench press a set percentage of your bodyweight for as many judged reps as you can, then race a chip-timed 5K, and every valid rep cuts 20 seconds off your finish time. Reps cap at 20, so the largest possible deduction is 6:40. That makes the results genuinely hard to predict, a strong lifter who runs a 26-minute 5K can finish ahead of someone who runs 21.
