40/40 NOW: May 13 - June 21, 2026

Creating Balance in an Ultra World

Presented by AdventureCORPS®, the masterminds behind Badwater®

We invite you to join us for a very special, first of its kind, 40-Day Life Adventure that you can do anywhere on Planet Earth!

40/40 NOW is a 40-day program which can serve many purposes:

-              Cross-Training for Sport, and for Life

-              Celebrate the Summer Solstice as your Best Self

-              For Ultra Athletes: Sharpen your Body and Mind for the Summer Racing Season

-              An Adventure in Life

40 / 40 NOW is open to anyone and everyone! (While we are the people behind the world-wide series of BADWATER® Ultramarathons, this opportunity is for anybody looking to head into summer as their very best self.)

Duration: 40 Days, from Wednesday, May 13 through Sunday, June 21.

(The 2026 summer solstice is on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 1:24 AM.)

Why 40 Days?

30 Days Creates a Habit, but a 40 Day Effort is a Transformative Spiritual Odyssey.

What Is the 40/40 Path? How does it work? What's involved?

The core of this challenge is completing 40 minutes of intentional movement activities in the AM, and 40 minutes in the PM.

-              One must be strength and/or flexibility oriented. Think weightlifting, yoga, stretch class, dance class, or martial arts. (This can be done at a gym or fitness studio, but also on your own at home, following DVDs or YouTube classes.)

-              The other 40-minute activity will be cardio-oriented. Think running, walking, hiking, bicycling, skating, or swimming. (For participants who already run or bike well over 40 minutes per day, we recommend pursuing a different sport for this 40-minute cardio activity.)

Additionally, each participant will check-In daily in the Strava Club: Given that participants will be all over the world, each morning (Pacific Time) we will post a “Daily Check-In!” reminder in the Strava Club: Every participant will comment to tell us what they did – and perhaps learned – that day after their PM activity. Accountability makes it real! Teamwork makes the dream work!

40/40 participants will also pursue ten different four-day personal challenges, and take “brain breaks” every Sunday:

-              10 Personal Challenges: One will be announced every Four Days

-              Screen-Free Sundays: No digital noise for 8 hours: You pick the timeframe, as long as it's during waking hours. (If work or childcare means you need your phone close, keep the ringer on for notifications, or have a family member or friend be in charge of your phone. Or if you must be on your phone, just don’t scroll any social media.)

-              Also every Sunday: Pause and Celebrate!  This is the opposite of a To Do List, this is a Done List: Write it and celebrate all you’ve achieved today, or in the past four days, or in the past week!

Every day each participant will receive an email which contains:

-              An inspiring quote

-              A simple but powerful nutrition tip and/or recipe

-              A link to an inspiring online or social media talk

-              Also, every four days, the email will announce the next of the ten 4-Day Challenges

The 40/40 participants will receive a printed interactive guidebook written by Chris Kostman and Erika Small which includes

-              “The Power and Meaning of 40”

-              “The Power and Meaning of the Summer Solstice”

-              "40 Books that could Change Your Life" Recommended Reading List

-              Hints at the ten Four-Day Challenges (actual Challenge details will come by email, so there’s no “planning ahead” – part of the challenge is the surprise!)

-              40-Day Calendar to track your progress: May 13-June 21, 2026

HOW WILL 40/40 NOW PARTICIPANTS INTERACT?

For camaraderie and to share insights and inspirations, a special, private Strava Club will bring everyone together on an ongoing, daily basis.

WHAT HAPPENS ON DAY 1?

• You will study the 40 / 40 NOW Guidebook

• You will write a note to yourself about what you hope to gain from this, how you feel your life is now (where are you happy or unhappy, how you want to become a better version of yourself.) You will put this is an envelope and set it aside for 40 days.

• You will begin! – Your 40-minute AM and 40-minute PM activities, and the first of the four-day personal challenges.

WHAT HAPPENS ON DAY 40?

THE END IS JUST THE BEGINNING : COMING TOGETHER ON THE SUMMER SOLSTICE

With the arrival of the Summer Solstice, we will celebrate and “seal” this experience in several ways:

• First, you will read your Day 1 Challenge note to yourself. Whether you share about this in the Strava Club is entirely up to you; no pressure to “over share”!

• We will send out a few simple Rituals to Celebrate the Summer Solstice; choose one or more!

• You will post your final AM and PM activities to the Strava Club and log them in your printed 40 / 40 NOW Guidebook.

• Zoom Call: We will all come together for a 40-minute video chat via  Zoom; this will take place at 900am, Pacific Time. (There will be participants all over the world, but this time works best for those in the Western Hemisphere and Europe; apologies to the rest of the world!)

FINALLY, some Mementos will be sent to each participant after  40/40 NOW concludes:
