About the Event

Experience the Flathead Valley from a whole new perspective at the Blacktail Climb on October 3rd—a cycling event that blends endurance, elevation, and incredible views. Set against the backdrop of Blacktail Mountain, this mixed pavement and gravel course challenges riders while rewarding every mile with sweeping overlooks of Flathead Lake, crisp autumn air, and vibrant fall color.

Hosted by the Lakeside Somers Chamber of Commerce, this event brings together riders, businesses, and community members in a celebration of both cycling culture and connection.

A portion of proceeds will support Blacktail QRU, helping give back to those who serve this mountain and our surrounding community during the winter season.

With multiple ways to ride—from the full summit climb to a shorter 10K route, plus a laid-back e-bike fun ride later in the day—there’s truly something for everyone, whether you're pushing for a personal best or simply out to enjoy the experience.

The day doesn’t end at the finish line. The Blacktail Climb rolls straight into a lively outdoor after-party at Tamarack Brewing Company, featuring local brews, food, music, and a vendor village. From competitive riders to casual cruisers, this event is all about coming together to ride, connect, and celebrate fall in the Flathead Valley.

Below, you’ll find an overview of the ride options, course details, and what’s included for participants.

Summit Race • $80 ($65 before 8.15.26) • Take on the full climb and earn the view at the top; pavement and gravel mix • 13.5 miles / 3,000 vertical ft • Includes chip timing, race shirt, finisher medal, free beer ticket(s), summit snacks, a descent shuttle, and the biggest bragging rights

10K Race • $55 ($50 before 8.15.26) | A shorter, fast-paced challenge with all the fall vibes; mostly paved • 6.2 miles / 1,500 vertical ft • Includes chip timing, race shirt, finisher medal, free beer ticket, summit snacks, and a descent shuttle

E-Bike Fall Fun Ride • $35 ($30 before 8.15.26) | Starting later in the day, cruise, climb, and enjoy the experience at your own pace with various stops along the way to take photos, sip cider, and soak in the beauty around you. • No chip timing, but will have the option to add on a race day shirt during registration.

Awards will be presented after the event; prizes and categories TBA.

For businesses in the cycling, outdoor, and wellness space, this is a unique opportunity to connect directly with your audience—whether through participation, presence in the vendor and demo village, or simply showing your support for the riding community. Sponsorship opportunities available, ranging from $75 to $1,000. Please email lakesidesomers@gmail.com if you're interested in collaborating and being part of this event with us.
