Guildhaus 5k Run & Walk
Blue Bridges 5k is a run/walk excursion through Blue Island along the Calumet Saganashkee Channel usually referred to as the Cal-Sag. The 5k route will start at the historic Guildhaus property, east along the Cal Sag Channel, darting in and out of the neighborhoods of Blue Island heading towards Fay’s Point Marina and ultimately ending back at the Guildhaus for a local market fair. You will be amazed at the history of Blue Island while encountering the best natural surroundings on the south side of Chicago. Guildhaus located on historical Canal Street in Blue Island is a residential men's halfway house started by Jack King with help from Tom Keating in 1987. This old blue house in front of the Cal-Sag Channel, has been helping men with substance use disorder for over 35 years. It has been a port in the storm for many men seeking recovery. “The Guildhaus is an inspired place guiding many wounded souls to rest from the chaos thy have been suffering.” ~ Guildhaus resident Our mission is to deliver conscientious, compassionate support to establish a solid recovery foundation and to transition to a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle. Our goal is to see these men return home and rebuild relationships with their loved ones and communities. We offer our clients and their families a close working relationship with our staff members. With understanding, compassion, and expertise, we strive to recognize and support each client’s individual needs. We are simply a family living together in a house, submersed in recovery! The money raised from the Blue Bridges 5K will be used to open a women's treatment center. The need for a women's treatment center is paramount on the southwest side of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. Guildhaus has committed to making this dream a reality. Every penny goes to expanding services and growing our campus to help the suffering individual with substance use disorder with the primary focus of helping women who are suffering with this disease. The opportunity to fulfil the longtime dream of Jack King stands before us. How exciting it would be to grow his legacy, offering a continuum of care to women in our own backyard. We ALL can make a difference! Please register today!
