About this race

Runners for Public Lands (RPL) envisions a world in which everyone has access to healthy, runnable landscapes. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers runners to protect public lands and expand access to nature for all.

We are excited to partner with the Santa Barbara Foundation, Los Padres Forest Association, the Santa Barbara Trail League, and the United States Forest Service (USFS), to present the 2026 Trail Work Series in Santa Barbara County. This brings our local community of runners together to learn about and care for the living landscapes we run with. Through repetitive, hands-on service events, we can grow ecological values and create strong connections that inspire runners to care for the places they love.

This is the 5th event for our 2026 Santa Barbara Trail Work Series. Each event is approved, permitted, and insured by the USFS, led by the Los Padres Forest Association trail work leaders, and managed by Runners for Public Lands  Ambassadors. Please note that the days and times of all events are subject to change based on the discretion of the USFS, current conditions, and weather. We will keep everyone informed through the Runners for Public Lands Ventura/Santa Barbara Strava Club and direct emails to registrants.

Blue Canyon, Backcountry Trail Work

-Meet at Romero Saddle (Coordinates: 34.476315, -119.595345) at 8am: Romero Saddle is about 45mins from downtown Santa Barbara / the SB Mission, everyone should have a full gas tank when they leave SB. Once we are arranged at Romero Saddle, together we will drive down to P-Bar. -This is a dirt road that passes through two locked forest service gates. We all drive in together at 8am and we'll all have to drive out together at the end of the day. As gates will be locked behind us, there will be no early departures unless emergency -Trucks or high clearance vehicles can drive to P-Bar. Subaru's are fine but not Tesla sort of cars. - We should arrive at P-Bar around 9am, begin trail work around 9:30, and continue until 2:30/3:00. - We will plan on getting back to the pavement at Romero Saddle no later than 4pm. -Bring: Enough water/food for the day, bike helmets for protection (optional), work gloves and sunscreen. Please also wear long pants and layers as the temp will likely be cold in the morning and hot during the day. -Dogs allowed, kids encouraged! -There are pit toilets at P-Bar *Refreshments provided
