Join us for the BookSmiles Run for Literacy 5K, a fun and exciting event that supports BookSmiles, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy and providing books to underprivileged children in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area! Event Details: - Date: Sunday, August 27, 2023 - Time: 8:00 AM (Registration opens at 7:00 AM) - Location: Cooper River Park - Registration Fee: $30 per person (includes a race T-shirt and finisher's medal with no extra fee) Race Course: The 5K (3.1 mile) course will take you along Cooper River in Camden County offering an enjoyable running experience for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Both runners and walkers are welcome! With the way the course is set up, the runners and walkers will not intersect with each other. Please note, walkers will turn around after the first 1/2 mile and will walk back to complete 1 mile. This will be marked accordingly. Schedule of Events: - 7:00 AM - Registration and packet pickup opens - 8:00 AM - 5K Run/Walk starts - 9:00 AM - Awards ceremony and post-race celebration Awards and Prizes: - Top 3 overall male and female finishers receive cash prize of $150 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd - Top 3 male and female finishers in each age group receive a medal Parking: There is parking all along Cooper River. Feel free to park in any of the lots near the track or the start. About BookSmiles: BookSmiles is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area. Our mission is to collect and distribute gently-used and new books to underprivileged children and teachers, fostering a love for reading and promoting literacy. Since our founding, we have provided over 1,000,000 books to local schools, libraries, and community organizations. We are always looking for volunteers at the Book Bank!
