Capitolina Dryland Challenge
About this race
Get ready to experience two days of mushing on fast, flowy trail that winds through forest and meadow. This is an ISDRA sanctioned dryland race with categories for men, women, and juniors across canicross, bikejor, scooterjor, and rig classes. The race will be held on shady, well established trails in Rome, Ga at the GE Trails. Expect two days of racing on a course approximately 2.3 miles long for all classes.
You must complete day 1 to be able to race day 2 (winners' purses to be announced). We'll have food and coffee on site for purchase as well as some other opportunities to gather and relax. Make sure to follow the event Facebook page for lodging/camping information and to stay up to date! WEATHER can be variable here. If your team is not acclimated to Southern winter conditions, please make decisions for your team accordingly; we may race at "feels like" temperatures that account for temperature and humidity upwards of 50 degrees depending on other conditions. We are all hoping for cold and clear though!
For anyone new to mushing, expect a driver's meeting to go over trail rules, safety, and equipment requirements. Feel free to contact us with any questions or to join our weekly drop in sessions for more information.
NEW THIS YEAR!
SWAG: All finishers will receive a challenge coin and a shirt. These will be one per racer - not one per class and will be in your driver's bags.
Real bathrooms! The city is installing public toilets with running water. Check socials for any updates on wash stations as I'm really hopeful there will be a hose hook up to at least knock some mud off your bikes, dogs, and maybe you!
Subscribe to our MONTHLY SOCIAL TRAINING CALENDAR: https://capitolinaevents.substack.com/ If you're in the Atlanta-Chattanooga-Anniston triangle, we may be on trails near you! We can also guarantee plenty of contact with the race route if you like to prep early for race day.
Awards:
First, Second, Third place finishers will be recognized in each class with canicross finishers in female, male, and nonbinary categories to be recognized.. Prizes will be awarded in classes with at least 3 participants. Junior racers will be recognized and awarded in a way to maximize the celebration of junior athletes to be determined after registration. That may look like gendered categories or recognition in categories with fewer than 3 racers. We LOVE seeing junior racers get at it!
