Kids Zone Information
The Kids Zone at the Crossroads 5K Run & Walk for Life is a fun, family‑friendly space created especially for children.
What to Expect
The Kids Zone is 100% free and open to:
- Children of registered event participants
- Children whose families are attending the event but are not registered to run or walk
Children do not need to be registered for the race to participate in the Kids Zone.
Activities will include:
- Sand art
- Pumpkin painting
- Face painting
- Bounce houses
Wristbands Required
Although the Kids Zone is free, wristbands are required for all children to participate in Kids Zone activities. Wristbands help us manage supplies and ensure a safe, organized experience.
New this year:
Kids Zone wristbands will be available as a free add‑on during race registration checkout. This allows us to identify how many wristbands are needed in advance and helps streamline Packet Pickup.
Free wristbands will be available at:
- Friday Packet Pickup
- Saturday at Packet Pickup and the Kids Zone
There is no cost for Kids Zone wristbands.
Kids Zone Activity Limits
To ensure that as many children as possible can participate:
- Sand art, pumpkin painting, and face painting are each limited to one per wristband
- Children may enjoy all three activities, but only one time each
Bounce houses are available for general use, pending availability.
Important Notes for Parents
- All children must wear socks to use the bounce houses
- Parents are strongly encouraged to bring extra socks, as the ground is often damp in the morning
- Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times while in the Kids Zone

Please be mindful that almost all street parking will be subject to a fee through a mobile pay app. This is a fee outside of our control. Some locations that still offer free parking are limited. Please factor in locating free parking when arriving as 500+ people will be all looking for parking simultaneously.

Races Offered
Running
5K
The 5K is open to both runners and walkers and will be a timed, competitive event. Overall awards and age‑group awards will be presented. All registered 5K participants will receive a race bib and a 5K finisher medal. Dogs and strollers are welcome; however, participants with dogs and/or strollers must start in the back with walkers to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Fun Run 10 & Under
The ½‑Mile Kids Fun Run is a one‑lap course on the same route used for the 1‑Mile Stroll. The course offers full visibility for parents and spectators, with the exception of a small section where participants briefly run behind the stage. Course marshals will be positioned at all turns, and a bike lead will guide participants along the route to ensure no one gets lost. This course remains entirely within the park, with no roadway or off‑site travel involved. This is an untimed, fun competition designed just for kids. Parents are welcome to run alongside younger children who may need extra support. To help keep everyone safe, older children are encouraged to line up toward the front, allowing smaller participants additional space at the start. Shirts are not included for free with this event. This year, participants will have the option to add a youth-sized race shirt to their registration for $10.00. If you do not wish to purchase a shirt, simply select “No Shirt” during registration—no additional fees will be added, and no shirt will be included for that participant. All participants will receive a Kids Fun Run finisher medal. The first boy and first girl to finish will each receive a special prize. This is one of our favorite events of the day, giving kids the chance to experience race day just like Mom, Dad, or other family members—and inspiring our future 5K runners.
Walking
1 Mile Stroll All Ages
The 1‑Mile Stroll is an easy, untimed walk designed for participants of all ages and abilities. The route consists of two 0.50‑mile loops on the course. Dogs and strollers are welcome, making this a great family‑friendly event. After completing the stroll, participants are encouraged to gather along the finish line to cheer on the runners as they cross.
