About the Event
Join us August 29 at 9am for our 14th annual 5K run/walk to benefit Iraqi orphans and vulnerable children! Participate in-person at beautiful Burke Lake Park in Fairfax, VA or join us virtually from ANYWHERE in the world. Come for the run/walk. Stay for the after-party with snacks, music, and other activities. Check-in starts at 8am. No race day registrations.
Together, we can do more than we can alone! Organize your own 5K team or start a fundraiser for Iraqi children. Awards go to the largest 5K team and the biggest fundraiser. The run/walk is on, rain or shine unless there is dangerous weather. No refunds.
The Iraqi Children Foundation (ICF) intervenes in the lives of Iraqi kids who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and recruitment by criminals, traffickers, and extremists. Across Iraq - from Baghdad to Mosul and Fallujah - ICF provides loving care to orphans and vulnerable children through education, legal protection, nutrition, rescue from the streets and child labor, medical and disability care, and fun! Join fellow runners on August 29, 2026 for the 2026 GLOBAL "IN THEIR SHOES 5K" Run/Walk to Benefit Orphans & Vulnerable Children. It's a fantastic 5K featuring a flat and fast course in Fairfax Station.

2026 GLOBAL "IN THEIR SHOES 5K" to Benefit Iraqi Orphans & Vulnerable Children
Location: The race starts and ends in Burke Lake Park (7315 Ox Rd, Fairfax Station, VA 22039). Parking is at Shelter C. Go straight after the gatehouse and take the first right. Go past the pavilion and volleyball courts and the parking lot is on the right. The best way to locate this event is via GPS using this latitudinal and longitudinal pin: 38.757432, -77.300404 Check ins: Arrive early - between 8:00 and 8:45 to check in and get your race shirt. No race day registrations. Live results: will be posted on Athlinks.com. Additionally, there will be a QR code at the race for you to scan to immediately view your results. Final race results with series points will be posted to our website on the Monday following your race. Awards: We award the top overall female and top overall male competitor. We also award the top overall girl (under 18) and top overall boy (under 18). Water Stations: Two water stations will be along the 5k course at approximately mile markers 0.7 & 2.4. Water stations are subject to change as deemed necessary. Restrooms: Can be located by the parking lot at Shelter A.
