About this race
The 48th annual Greenville Journal Run Downtown 5K is held on the third Saturday of each January. For 2027, this will be Jan 16.
The race is one of the oldest, largest and most popular 5K events in the state, running strong since 1979.

Greenville News Run Downtown Certified Virtual 5K
We're still in "pandemic mode" so it won't be possible to have one-day event. Instead, we're going to a multi weekend event like we did for Spinx Run Fest in 2020. The 5K course is USATF certified and we'll be using our Camera Timing System for accurate results, as good as chip timing. The Certified 5K will have Overall, Masters, Grandmasters and Age Group awards. Come out and run the new "flat and fast" 5K course and kick the new year into high gear! You may run the CERTIFIED 5K on any of the race dates shown below. You don't need to tell us which date you're going to run. Also, you're allowed to RUN TWICE, in case you're not satisfied with your first run! Greenville News Run Downtown Standard Virtual 5K
For those of you who live outside the Greenville area, or would just rather run the 5K on their own terms, we're offering a "standard virtual" 5K race. You can run any 5K course you want anytime you want (between Jan. 9 and Jan. 17). You'll be able to submit your results online. However, since courses and timing aren't certified for the virtual 5K, participants won't be eligible for awards.
