Host Park's Cold Start Warm Finish Family Fun Run/Walk & Canicross
About this race
Open to the community, seasoned runners, health enthusiasts, dog runners, or those looking to start the new year right are welcome to participate! Partnering with Aloha Tri Sports and JTL Timing, runners will get their "cold start" with a splash of HOST Park's deep seawater while running along the Kona coastline and end with a "warm finish" as they cross the line and join the energetic celebration, complete with music and a community wellness party! The starting point is near the Mauka Research Campus gate. Makako Bay Drive will be closed to the general public for this exciting event.

Everyone is welcome to join the fun and discover local wellness programs, healthy dietary goods, and mental health resources available right here in our community. Keikis can join in the bubble party after the keiki dash, courtesy of Hawaii Keiki Museum.

HOST Park's Cold Start Warm Finish Canicross (with dog) 5K Run/Walk
Canicross—cross-country trail running with dogs—originated as a way for the dog sledding community to keep their teams fit during the off-season. The sport first gained popularity in Europe, with the United Kingdom leading efforts to formalize and promote it. North American Canicross defines the sport as trail running with one or two dogs, who are always attached to the runner. The dogs wear non-restrictive, free-motion harnesses that connect near the base of the tail to a bungee or elastic line. The runner wears a hands-free waist belt, creating a secure, team-oriented setup for shared movement on the trails.
HOST Park's Cold Start Warm Finish 10K Run/Walk
The Cold Start Warm Finish HOST Park Fun Run/Walk course runs along the Makako Bay Drive and trails along the Pacific Ocean. The 10k/5k/canicross course is an out-and-back course with some hills throughout. Approximately 50% of the running course will be on road surfaces. The remaining part of the running course will be on gravel roads or sandy trails fronting the Pacific Ocean.
