Kylie's Fight 5K
About this race
Kylie’s Journey
In early 2018, as a freshman in high school, Kylie Schutzmann was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. At such a young age, she began a long and incredibly difficult fight. After months of treatment, strength, and determination, Kylie and her family finally heard the words everyone hopes for—she was cancer free.
Now at 22 years old, Kylie should be focused on building her future, chasing her dreams, and enjoying life as a young adult. For several years, things began to feel normal again for her and her family.
But in October of 2025, during one of her routine annual checkups, doctors noticed something concerning on a scan. After additional testing and biopsies, Kylie and her family received heartbreaking news: her cancer had returned after seven years. As you can imagine, the news brought overwhelming fear, anxiety, and uncertainty for everyone who loves her.
After meeting with her medical team and developing a new treatment plan, Kylie was told she would need to begin another eight months of chemotherapy in hopes of eliminating the cancer once again.
Sadly, cancer is not a new battle for this family. When Kylie’s mom was pregnant with her, she was diagnosed with cancer and had to give birth early so she could begin treatment. Years later, Kylie faced her own diagnosis as a teenager. Now, with this recurrence, the family is facing chemotherapy for the third time. The emotional weight of this journey is heavy, and the financial burden that comes with repeated treatments has been overwhelming.
With so many unknowns, there have been moments filled with questions and uncertainty about why this has happened again. Through it all, Kylie has remained incredibly strong in her faith in Jesus. Even on the hardest days, she places her worries in His hands and holds onto the belief that whatever lies ahead is under His control. While there are certainly ups and downs throughout treatment, her faith and positivity continue to shine through and inspire everyone around her.
Along with the emotional and physical challenges of treatment, the family is also facing significant financial strain. Every couple of weeks, Kylie must travel about three and a half hours to Spokane for appointments and treatments, often staying for several days at a time. With the rising costs of gas, hotels, and food, these trips quickly add up while they are also managing ongoing medical expenses. Both of Kylie’s parents work in education, and while they work incredibly hard, the financial demands of cancer treatment make this journey even more difficult.
We are asking for help to support Kylie and her family during this incredibly challenging time. Donations will go toward travel expenses, lodging, meals, and medical costs associated with her treatment. Any amount—big or small—will help ease the financial burden so the family can focus on what truly matters: Kylie’s healing and recovery.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Kylie and her family in your prayers. Your support, kindness, and encouragement mean more than words can express.
Thank you for standing with Kylie as she begins this fight once again.
