Memphis Youth Athletics (Mya) XC Series
About this race
Our Fall Cross Country Program runs September to October. The season consists of regular season meets and a championship meet.
The ES/MS series includes the Frank Horton Classic and concludes with a regional championship meet that allows athletes from all over West TN a chance to qualify for the TN State Elementary and Middle School XC Championships in October.
The HS series offers 4 regular season meets and concludes with a City Championship in late October, before the TSSAA Region Meets. The Frank Horton Classic is not included and coaches must register their teams separately.
Volunteer coaches are needed to coach school based teams. Coaches can include school PE teachers, parent coaches, or other volunteers at their Elementary School, Middle School or the community. In most cases, this ‘team’ is considered a school club, supported by the parents and PTSOs. MYA will serve as your meet director and facilitator during the season. We do not hold practices nor train athletes during this part of the season. If your school does not have a program and you would like one then we can get you started! Everyone is welcome, whether your school has a program or not, you are home-schooled, or just love to run!!
Eligibility:
- Open to all boys and girls of Elementary (grades 3-5), Middle (grades 6-8), & High School (grades 9-12). We realize that certain school districts have different grade designations for Middle School and Elementary School but we will need to adhere to one standard.
- The program is open to all public, private schools and home schooled athletes.
- Home schooled individuals may compete as unattached, part of a school team closest to their normal public school zone, or as part of a recognized home school cooperative.
Distances Run:
- Elementary School - 1 Mile
- Middle School - 2 Mile
- High School - 5K
Practice Times:
These times are at your discretion. We recommend that you practice a minimum of 2-3 times a week in order to fully prepare the kids to complete a 2-mile (or 1 mile for Elementary) course comfortably. Your initial goal should be to promote positive fitness goals with performance issues taking a back seat to participation.
Insurance:
Practice and Meet Insurance coverage provided through the USATF (USA Track and Field) our sports governing body. Individual accident medical coverage (pays as overage to primary parent coverage) is provided as part of Registration Fee.
Costs:
- ES/MS: $ 55.00 per athlete for the entire season (one fee or all meets). As a result of higher venue rental fees at Shelby Farms, we have increased our registration fees to offset the additional expenses, while continuing to offer the same level of scholarships to children and teams in need. For those athletes who are not able to afford the program costs a fee waiver may be granted. Please contact the program director for details info@memphisyouthathletics.org.
- High School: $10 per MYA meet for each athlete (invoiced at the end of the season). High School teams must register separately for the Frank Horton Classic.
The program fee will cover the following operational costs:
- EMTs
- Park fees
- Porte-Johns
- Practice insurance for athletes
- Event insurance and liability insurance for coaches
- Individual accident medical coverage for the athlete
- Bib numbers, bib chips and pins
- Awards
- Office supplies
- Course supplies marking / flagging / finish line
- PA system at all meets
