About this race

This program is designed to help walkers, walk-runners, and runners who want to race Nocturnal 12, our 12-Hour Endurance Challenge.  Although the race is overnight, all training is done during normal coaching hours: 8 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays or 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays (still 8 am. Saturdays), depending upon which time slot you choose. We offer various lengths of training to give folks flexibility in cost and scheduling. The shorter the training, the bigger base you need to have, commensurate to your finish distance/duration goals.

The program is designed with three groups' goals in mind:

  • those who want to do a specific distance up to 50 Miles (we can accommodate longer, if someone is experienced with 50K+ already)
  • those who want to do a certain number of hours
  • those who want to see what they can do without a specific time or distance goal

Participants' current experience at the time of the program start will inform the program approach for each individual. The program includes many coached in-person workouts (including Marathon or 50K+ practice for the participants' chosen training distances, depending upon experience), a practice of at least 70% of their specific distance or 70% of your time target up to a max of six hours, a comprehensive training plan (tweaked midway, as appropriate), and a private training group on Facebook. There may be group workout days that will not be coached. (Clients may be offered the opportunity to join the coach on her personal workout, if she's available on the Sunday following any non-coached Saturdays.) Pricing is based on length of training program and variations in coached workout availability.

When:
Tuesdays and Thursdays either at 8 a.m. for mornings only tracks or 6 p.m. for traditional weeknight/weekend morning tracks.
Saturdays, 8 a.m. for both sessions

Where:
Most workouts are at Greece Canal Park (GCP) at 241 Elmgrove Rd., Rochester, NY 14626 until too dark for the park (it closes at dusk). Evening workouts typically move to nearby Cherry Creek Ln, Henpeck Park, or Canal Ponds Park when GCP is closed.

What:
Tuesdays are hill workouts (Hill Focus). Thursdays are speed workouts (Speed Boost). Saturdays are long distance workouts (Long, Slow Distance).

Why choose Nocturnal 12 for your training?

  • Small program size means Coach Vickey gets to know you well enough to tailor a program to your goals and needs.
  • Vickey is an experienced walker and runner who has raced a wide range of paces and distances, so she can relate to a variety of issues and concerns.
  • It's cost effective and provides personalization and individual attention in a small group setting where the coach gets to know each participant.
  • All participants are welcome from people just starting to walk for fitness to those who have been racing for years.
  • Tracks that are shorter compared to the typical training time for a given distance may have distance requirements before starting. Ex. An 8-week training track might require you to be able to already do ten miles if you're trying for marathon distance where a 12-week plan wouldn't.
