One Thousand Schools 5K
About this race
Run 5K with One Thousand Schools and meet special guest, international ultra-marathon runner and YouTube star Shin Fujiyama! With over 100 schools built, One Thousand Schools is on a mission to empower youth in Honduras through education. Run and support our educational and residential programming for at risk and homeless youth. Celebrate Honduran heritage and international humanitarian service for education. Run and be entered to win a special run-based trip to Honduras to train with a Honduran Olympian and his run club!
Founded by Falls Church resident and Mary Washington Alumni, Shin Fujiyama - the One Thousand Schools organization has grown to build over 100 schools in Honduras. Hundreds of volunteers from the greater DC area have volunteered with the organization since 2007 in Honduras working on education programs. The purpose of this run is to raise funds and awareness for the organization promoting education and youth empowerment for Honduran youth to provide educational and residential services for homeless youth.

Corre y apoya nuestros programas educativos y residenciales dirigidos a jóvenes en situación de riesgo y sin hogar. Celebra la herencia hondureña y el servicio humanitario internacional en favor de la educación. ¡Corre y participa en el sorteo de un viaje especial a Honduras, centrado en el running, para entrenar junto a un atleta olímpico hondureño y su club de corredores!
Fundada por Shin Fujiyama —residente de Falls Church y exalumno de la Universidad Mary Washington—, la organización One Thousand Schools ha crecido hasta construir más de 100 escuelas en Honduras. Cientos de voluntarios del área metropolitana de Washington D.C. han colaborado con la organización en Honduras desde 2007, trabajando en diversos programas educativos. El propósito de esta carrera es recaudar fondos y generar conciencia sobre la labor de la organización, promoviendo la educación y el empoderamiento de la juventud hondureña, así como brindar servicios educativos y residenciales a jóvenes sin hogar.

Timed by our race partner DC Road Runners, run 5K on a beautiful race course following the Mt. Vernon trail starting from Dangerfield Island park to Oronoco Park and back. Con la cronometría a cargo de nuestro socio de carrera, DC Road Runners, corre 5 km en un hermoso circuito que sigue el sendero Mt. Vernon, partiendo desde el parque Dangerfield Island hasta el parque Oronoco y de regreso.
Fun Mile
Walk, run or dance a mile for education! The fun run will kick off our event before the start of the 5K. Great for families, kids and first time race participants. Go at your pace for a short, one mile celebration. Participants will receive a race T-shirt. Medal not included. ¡Camina, corre o baila una milla por la educación! Esta carrera recreativa dará inicio a nuestro evento, justo antes del comienzo de la carrera de 5K. Es ideal para familias, niños y quienes participan en una carrera por primera vez. Avanza a tu propio ritmo en esta breve celebración de una milla. Los participantes recibirán una camiseta de la carrera. No incluye medalla.
