Remembering Matt Powers 5K Run/Walk

Matt left us on July 19, 2026, and his family and friends are faced with a tremendous loss in their lives.  The 5K Run/Walk event on Sunday, November 1, 2026, hosted by Matt's family, is to honor Matt’s memory and celebrate the happiness he found in running with his Mile in My Shoes friends and to remember how important this group was to him.  Matt’s family is also forever grateful to everyone in his life who loved and supported him over the years.

The Wigington Pavilion at Harriet Island Regional Park will be the central location for our event.  The Pavilion will be open for this gathering from 9:00am to 3:00pm with tables and seating, bottled water, and some of Matt’s favorite snacks for all who attend.  Our family looks forward to meeting and visiting with everyone.  

Everyone who knew Matt is invited to this event.  We ask that you please register even if you do not intend to run/walk.  For those who wish to participate in the 5K Run/Walk, the race will begin at 9:30am by the Pavilion and will last until everyone has finished. We have included a menu tab at the top of this page for volunteer sign-up.  We will need volunteers to hold runners/walkers for traffic at two locations during this event, Raspberry Island crossing + Plato/Dr. Justus Ohage Blvd. intersection.
