Salmon Scramble 5k
About the Event
Get ready to "scramble" through Buchanan for the Salmon Scramble 5k! This fun and scenic race will take you along McCoy Creek, a key part of the annual Salmon Run that sees these amazing fish migrate from Lake Michigan to spawn. Experience the beautiful natural surroundings of Buchanan's own McCoy Creek Trail and maybe even catch a glimpse of the migrating salmon as you run or walk your way to the finish line. This is a non-timed event and there will be no awards for our first run. For every person that registers, there will be a special registration commemorative award for our first year's race to go along with some swag. Join in the excitement and support this local event!
When you register 4 or more people discount will be: $1 off each registered entry
NEW UPDATE 9/24/2025: Our incredible handmade inaugural coasters for each registrant will have a cut-off on Saturday 11:59 PM. We want to give our crafter of these amazing coasters time to get them done before packet pick-up dates.
Start Time -
5k starts at 8:00 am
PACKET PICKUP - Will be held Saturday, October 4th in the evening from 5-7 PM at the race location, and on race day October 5th from 7-8 AM
Refreshments that will be provided: Water, Gatorade, breakfast bars, bananas, apples, and gold fish (salmon crackers 😂)
Parking will be available at the Buchanan high school parking lot and side streets.
Please leave dogs at home.
This is a non-timed event! Results are self-timed this year.
There are NO REFUNDS.
Race day registration is online only, no paper registration will be provided.

Salmon Scramble Su-pear 5k and Fun Run
Join us for the first annual 5k race on Sunday, Oct 5th 8:00 am. This fun run gives participants a chance to enjoy the beautiful fall colors on a portion of the Buchanan McCoy Creek trail system. The course is a combination of road, paved trail, and grass. Some portions of the course are hilly but a great challenge to start your fall racing. The race will have a running clock for those who would like to know their finishing times. Runners and walkers are encouraged to come out and enjoy the newest small town race. For the safety of all, dogs will not be permitted to participate. Participants will receive a one of a kind wooden coaster in addition to refreshments after the race.
