2025 - Santa Barbara Trail Work Series presented by Runners for Public Lands and the Los Padres Forest Association

Trail Work Series - Event #1 Romero Canyon Trailhead 34°27'10.5"N 119°35'26.4"W

Help prepare the trails for the legendary Santa Barbara 9 Trails race! Parking can be a little challenging - please carpool! You may have to park up or down Bella Vista Road and walk a bit to the actual trailhead. Schedule: Once we’re all together; we'll have a brief welcome, educational session and a safety talk to go over the plan for the day, distribute the tools and then start up the trail. We have about ⅓ mile hike up to where the work will start. Project Description: We’ll break into teams and the work will consist of both brushing and moderate tread work. While there is some shade, it’s mostly south-facing exposure so plan on being in the sun. Please bring water / food as needed and we’ll plan on working until 1pm or so and then heading back down to the trailhead. Educator: Siena McKim: PhD student of marine biology and evolution and all around naturalist. Will talk about the lesser known organisms in Santa Barbara like soil invertebrates, slime molds, and lichens. Stay tuned for more information about a run before or after this trail work event! If a run is planned the route will be provided on the Runners for Public Land Ventura Santa Barbara Strava Club Page. Trail work refreshments will be provided as well as some RPL swag and giveaways from our sponsor nomadix, GU and Athletic Brewing! Recommended items for trail work: - Long sleeves and pants - Hat - Sunglasses/Eye protection - Work gloves (if you have them) - Sunscreen - Water - Personal snacks/ Food (especially if you have food sensitivities) - Pack Layers as it will be sold in the morning. Location to Meet: Romero Canyon Trailhead 34°27'10.5"N 119°35'26.4"W *Note: This trail work project is approved and permitted under the volunteer service agreement between the USFS, the Los Padres Forest Association, and Runners for Public Lands. The USFS may require that we change the location or cancel this event for any reason, especially if weather or hazardous conditions exist.
