Seeley Lake Biathlon
About this race
The Seeley Lake Biathlon, February 6, 2027, is a "citizens biathlon" race. No prior biathlon experience is required. Racers must provide their own ski equipment. Seeley Lake Biathlon will supply rifles, targets and ammo. Racers will experience the thrills and challenges of biathlon. Firearm safety and safe range procedures take priority over race times. All participants must attend a Gun Safety Briefing prior to range practice or race participation. Safety briefing times for each race listed below.
Racers can register for 3K, 7.5K, or 13.5K (new race distances for the mid-length and long race). On-line registration only for the Seeley Lake Biathlon, there will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.
- 3K Categories: Adult & Youth
- 7.5K Categories: Adult & Youth
- 13.5K Categories: Adult
Categories for the Races will be broken into heats based on the number of participants, targets, and shooting safety protocols.
For All Races, each racer will ski a loop, shoot prone, ski a loop, shoot standing, and ski another loop to the finish line. A 150 meter penalty loop will be skied for each missed shot.
All events are freestyle. There are no separate categories for classic or skate. Snacks and drinks will be provided to racers; donations suggested for non-racer food.
MANDATORY Gun Safety Briefing and shooting range training will be provided on race day as follows:
- 13.5K participants from 9:00am to 10:00am
- 7.5K participants from9:30am to 10:45am
- 3K participants from 1:00pm to 2:15pm
This race is a cooperative venture between Seeley Lake Nordic Ski Club, a 501C3 nonprofit, and the Wilderness Sportsman Club of Seeley Lake, a 501C4 nonprofit organization. All proceeds go to these non-profits for youth and event development. Our goal is to provide an introduction to biathlon and firearm safety to all participants, with a priority on youth and the young at heart.

Skiing
21 K Biathlon - Adult
The Adults are any participant who18 years or older, target shooting gear provided. These are freestyle categories, so classic or skate ski styles will compete together. All shooting gear will be provided.
21K Biathlon - Elite Adult
Elite Adults must be over 18 years of age. Elite racers are expected to have prior biathlon experience. Elite racers may ski with personal rifle, borrowed shooting gear will remain at the range. Elite racers will be expected to skate ski.
Range Safety and Orientation. (21K & 9K participants)
The Range Safety Briefing is mandatory for all participants. Practice is recommended. If using personal rifles the practice period is also the opportunity to check zero on your rifle.
9 K Biathlon - Adult
The Adults are any participant 18 or over. Shooting gear will be provided. These are freestyle categories, so classic or skate ski styles will compete together.
9 K Biathlon - Elite Adult
Elite Adults must be over 18 years of age. Elite racers are expected to have prior biathlon experience. Elite racers may ski with personal rifle, borrowed shooting gear will remain at the range. Elite racers will be expected to skate ski.
9K Biathlon - Youth
Youth will include anyone under 18 years of age. These are freestyle categories, so classic or skate ski styles will compete together. All shooting gear will be provided.
3 K Biathlon - Youth
Youth will include anyone under 18 years of age. These are freestyle categories, so classic or skate ski styles will compete together. All shooting gear will be provided.
3K Biathlon - Adult
Adult entries must be over 18. These are freestyle categories, so classic or skate ski styles will compete together. All shooting gear supplied.
Range Safety and Orientation (3K participants)
Range Safety and Orientation is required for all biathlon participants. Rifles and ammunition provided, participants may bring their own biathlon rifles, personal firearms will be inspected and approved by the range staff. Participants must bring own ski equipment.
