Calling all volunteers! We always need fantastic volunteers and we have a volunteer program to help save you some dough. Volunteers who work a 5 hour shift will receive free entry into a future RunningLane Event 1/2 Marathon distance and shorter. Volunteers who work (2) 5 hour shifts or (1) 8+ hour shift will receive free entry into a future RL Event 50 Miler and down OR (2) races 1/2 marathon and down. Smoke Rise 5K 10K & Half Marathon
The guaranteed Smoke Rise t-shirt deadline is April 29th. We should have enough shirts for everyone however some people may initially receive a RunningLane shirt which they can swap for after the race if there are left over sizes of the Smoke Rise shirts.

Please remember that all RunningLane Events trail races are "cupless races." You must have a hand held bottle, pack or or reusable cup as there won't be any paper cups at the aid stations to cut down on waste. If you don't have a reusable cup, there is the option to buy a RunningLane reusable cup at checkout for $5.

The race starts at the beautiful Blevins Gap Land Trust along picturesque Green Mountain. This trail race is designed for both new and experienced trail runners alike. The average temperatures for race day are a low of 59F, high of 81F. Aid stations will have bottled water and individually wrapped snacks. Registration
This race has a hard cap of 250 runners. All runners who sign up for the race will receive a t-shirt and awesome finisher medal. We will also grill out for the runners after the race.

Packet Pickup
Packet pickup will be on Friday, May 8th, 2026 @ RunningLane from 12-5pm. RunningLane is located at 2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35801. Also, there will race day packet pick up at the race site the morning of from 645am-745am but we encourage you to get there as early as possible!

Shirts & Awards
To be guaranteed a Smoke Rise T-shirt you must be registered before April 29th. We should have enough however if there are 1-2 sizes that we run out of, those participants will receive a super soft RunningLane t-shirt.

The race shirt will be a tri blend t-shirt shirt. Age groups will be: 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ for the 10K and Half Marathon. ALL runners will receive a sweet finisher medal.

Weather & Cutoffs
In the event of severe weather we will delay the start as necessary to avoid lightening. If severe weather threats the entire day and does not appear to let up, we may be forced to cancel. However over the years of putting on races we have never once had to cancel due to weather.

Average temperatures: Low 59F, High 81F

The cutoff for the 10K is 2hr30min. This works out to be 24:08 min/mi pace. The Half Marathon cutoff is 3hr40min or 16:50 min/mi pace. If you cannot maintain 16min pace we ask that you please consider running the 10k.

There are no refunds, deferrals, credits or friend / family transfers on entries. We do not mail shirts or medals to participants unable to make the event as left over shirts are donated.

Lodging
Monte Sano State Park is the best place to stay for this race. The park is a short 10 minute drive to the race site and offers beautiful cabins overlooking the Tennessee Valley.
