Veterans Day 5K, 10K & Ruck
About this race
Honor the past. Prepare for what comes next.
Join us Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Midland College campuses for the Veterans Day 5K, 10K, 5K Ruck and Kids 1K.
This year's event carries special significance as America celebrates 250 years of independence.
For 250 years, America's freedom has been preserved because generations of men and women voluntarily accepted the responsibility to serve, protect and defend it.
Veterans Day gives us the opportunity not only to remember that sacrifice, but to ask what responsibility freedom places on the rest of us.
The standard is not simply knowledge. It is readiness—the discipline to recognize what is required, respond when called, and execute with purpose.
That is part of what this morning represents.
We run.
We walk.
We ruck.
We gather.
We serve.
We practice health, resilience, discipline and community because freedom and independence are not merely ideas to understand—they are responsibilities to exercise.
As America enters its next 250 years, we are preparing ourselves and those around us to serve, protect and preserve freedom for another 250 years.
Come run beside our veterans, families, neighbors and community.

Official 5K Ruck
Carry the Weight. Give the Weight. The Official Veterans Day 5K Ruck is a free event with one additional requirement: your weight serves someone else. Instead of traditional ruck weight, participants will carry canned goods. Men carry a minimum of 30 pounds. Women carry a minimum of 20 pounds. Bring your canned goods packed inside the backpack or ruck you intend to carry. Report between 7:00 and 7:30 AM for official weigh-in before joining the 8:00 AM start. Complete the full 5K carrying your qualifying weight. When you cross the finish line, the weight comes off your shoulders and goes directly toward helping another family. All canned goods will be donated to the West Texas Food Bank. Every qualifying finisher receives a finisher medal and commemorative USA 250 Veterans Day Ruck Patch for their pack. Carry the weight. Finish the mission. Leave the weight behind for someone who needs it.
1K Kids Run
Veterans Day Kids 1K The next generation gets to participate too. The Veterans Day Kids 1K is a free, family-friendly run held as part of the morning's Veterans Day activities. Approximately 100 medals from the 2025 Veterans Day event have been reserved specifically for our Kids 1K participants. Our goal is simple: give children an opportunity to move, participate and experience a community gathered around service, responsibility and gratitude.
