- To be guaranteed a shirt, you must register by Friday, Nov. 13, 2026
- Sleep in registration available. If you do not want to participate on race day but want to support the Y and get a race T-shirt, we are happy for the support. Shirts must be picked up prior to event day at packet pickup.
- Payment: Credit cards are the only accepted form of payment. No cash or checks will be accepted.
- Please note there is a processing fee and sales tax associated with each entry.
- Race Start/Finish Location: Starting near Good People Brewing on 1st Avenue South
- Course Information: Participants will head northeast up 1st Avenue South towards the Rotary Trail toward 32nd Street South where they will turn around and race back towards Good People Brewing. Flat and fast! CLICK HERE to view the course map.

Couch to 5K Training
Get ready for race day! This year, we are introducing a Couch to 5K training program, developed by YMCA of Greater Birmingham fitness staff! Participants will receive an easy-to-follow training plan. Upon registration, stop by your home branch, to receive your Couch to 5K Display Card and begin logging your progress. You will receive additional info via email upon registration. Non-members are welcome to participate. In-branch progress tracking is not required, but strongly encouraged!
Y It Matters 5K
All 5K participants will receive a medal. Top 3 finishers in each age/gender category will receive a medal or non-cash prize.
Y It Matters 5K - Sleep-In Option
Don't want to run or walk the event but still want to support the Downtown YMCA Youth Center? You will still get the official race day t-shirt if you register by Nov. 21
Y It Matters Fun Run
Children and their families are invited to run our inagural Fun Run as part of the Y It Matters Race Day. The course is a 1-mile fun run, out and back. Paying participants will receive a race shirt. A parent/guardian may run alongside their child(ren) at no cost, but will not recieve a bib, shirt or medal. Fun Run Registration will prompt adults registering minors to identify as a parent running with a minor so we can accurately track participation.
