Buff Betty Adventure Race
About this race
Over the past 16 years, the Buff Betty has introduced hundreds of women to the sport of adventure racing. It's a race for women, designed by women. The Buff Betty introduces racers to the sport in a fun, laid-back, friendly, and supportive environment. For this year's race, there will be one race course option: the original Buff Betty. The race will run between 8-10 hours, for a full day of biking, trekking, paddling and navigating.
We are only offering one race this year; the course will be designed to accommodate all levels, from beginners to seasoned racers. There will be options for everyone to take on the course in the way they see fit, doing what they can within the time frame. All checkpoints will be optional and all Transition Areas (TAs) mandatory. The team with the most points in the least amount of time wins. It’s the perfect race for beginners, while also challenging the most seasoned of racers—with options to take on more challenging checkpoints, depending on navigation, strategy, distance and mountain biking ability.
The Buff Betty Adventure Race brings an exciting Ultra, 32.2K to Williamsburg, Virginia on June 22, 2024. Don't miss this beautiful event!

Buff Betty 10 hour
In 2022 we introduced the 12 hour Buff Betty and we were thrilled with the response and all the bad-ass Buff Betty’s that took on a tough course. This year’s course will be challenging, especially with regard to navigation on the foot sections. Paddling will also play a big role in this race and teams can expect anywhere from 6-10 miles of lake paddling. If you have been thinking about taking on a longer race and feel that you have the fitness and navigation ability to get to the finish line, this is the race for you. Or perhaps you want to work on that navigation, test yourself and see what you can do on your own as a soloist, or leading a team without the guys around…. The team that acquires the most points in the least amount of time wins. All checkpoints will be optional with all TA’s mandatory. Teams will be able to do as much of or as little of the course as they feel comfortable doing. The course is a secret until race morning when you get your map(s) and rules of travel instructions.
Buff Betty 6 hour
The original Buff Betty will be designed as a beginner-friendly race that will also challenge those veteran Buff Betty’s who perhaps do not have the time or desire to do a race that lasts all day. It is also the perfect race to introduce your daughters or nieces, or a friend that is curious and interested in the sport. This course will consists of the three main disciples of the sport, biking, trekking and padding, and will be designed so that you have fun, with a little bit of challenge thrown in. The navigation will be very beginner friendly. The team that acquires the most points in the least amount of time wins. All checkpoints will be optional with all TA’s mandatory. Teams will be able to do as much of or as little of the course as they feel comfortable doing. The course is a secret until race morning when you get your map and rules of travel instructions.
