5K Run
Date: June 4, 2022 Start time: 8 a.m. After a two-year hiatus, Floppin' Flounder is back! This year's 5k race will start and finish at Sullivan's Island Elementary School on Ion Ave. Packet pickup will be at Fleet Feet in Mount Pleasant on Friday, June 3 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. as well as 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at the elementary school on race day. We strongly recommend that you pick up your packet the day before the race in order to avoid any additional pre-race stress. We're expecting it to be a hot morning. There will be two water stations on the course: one at mile 1 the other at mile 2, and there will be Gatorade at the finish line. Here, you will also find iced towels as well as the Kona Ice truck to cool you down. This year's top finishers will receive a gift certificate for two stretches from Stretch Zone as well as a beautiful hand-painted fish that is perfect for holding jewelry or decorating your home. Our age-group finishers will receive a unique hand-painted fish tile that can be used as a Christmas ornament or other decoration. This year's finisher medals will be a delicious lemon cookie. But if you do want the bling, our pretty 2020 medals will be there for the taking. You will, in fact, be running the 28th edition of Floppin' Flounder. You will also have the opportunity to speak with mother-daughter duo Pamela Jouan-Goldman and Julia Goldman. TURTLE is the first book in the Run Like A Girl series that follows a young runner's journey from grade school to college. Each book will explore the very real issues that female runners are confronted with as well as the benefits. Wrapped up in a middle grade fictional story, TURTLE plants a seed about what team running can offer: confidence, leadership, community, purpose, self-discipline and a realization that running like a girl is something to aspire to. All book sales will go to Girls on the Run, an after-school program designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength. You can learn more about TURTLE at www.runlikeagirlbooks.com. And last but not least, Brian Cleary of Kickin' Country 92.5 will be doing the announcements and playing the music! This event will take place rain or shine.
