About this race

What is it?
A 5k Training Program is designed to help train anyone who has ever wanted to try to run a 5k (3.1 mile) road race. Training starts off slowly and progresses with the goal of running in the Run for Freedom 5k on July 4th in Derry, NH.

We educate participants on proper stretching, clothing, running techniques and diet. Many of our participants become active runners, including one who has gone on to run a marathon! This is the only known FREE 5k training program in NH. Complete the program and participate in the Run for Freedom to receive a free t-shirt to wear during the race as well as free membership in the Greater Derry Track Club for the rest of 2024!

When is it?

This year the program will begin on May 5th at 6:00 p.m.
We will meet on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m.

Where is it?
We will meet at the Windham Depot end of the Windham Rail Trail. Set your GPS to 6 Depot Road, Windham, NH 03087.

What is the Run for Freedom 5K?
The Greater Derry Track Club began this race in 2014 to raise money for the Liberty House: a facilitator of healthcare, transitional housing, and job training for homeless veterans. We invite veterans to come join and celebrate this event on one of the most patriotic days of the year, Independence Day. Participate and enjoy the post race festivities, including food, refreshments, raffle prizes, and awards.

What are the expectations for the participants?      IMPORTANT!!!
Although the program is designed for beginners, the participants should expect to handle physical exercise. We will be walking and jogging for 20-25 minutes at each workout. Please consult your physician if you have a history of leg injuries, surgeries or heart issues.  We want to make sure everyone has a great experience.  The participants who join this program do so with the expectation of attending all sessions on Tuesdays at 6pm and Saturday's at 8:30 from May 6th - July 2nd.  Total meeting time for each session is approximately 45 minutes.  it is understood that life gets in the way to force missing one or two of the workouts!
