About this race

Come join the Maddie's Message 5k - Race to Secure in partnership with Big River Race Management!! This is a family friendly event, hosted on the famous Virginia Beach boardwalk. Enjoy the smell of the ocean air as you race for a great cause!  Participating in the Maddie’s Message Race is more than just a run—it’s a powerful step toward saving lives. This 5K event supports a mission that hits close to home: raising awareness about furniture tip-over hazards and promoting child safety in every household. Here’s why your involvement matters:

  • Honor Maddie’s Legacy with Action: Maddie’s Message was founded in memory of a vibrant young girl whose life was tragically cut short due to an unsecured piece of furniture. This race carries her legacy forward by working to prevent similar tragedies through education and advocacy.
  • Support Critical Safety Initiatives: The race aims to raise $50,000 to fund life-saving efforts—public awareness campaigns, furniture anchor giveaways, and educational materials for parents, caregivers, and communities. Your steps directly support safer homes for children everywhere.
  • Help Prevent Tragedies Before They Happen: Every 30 minutes, a child is injured by a furniture tip-over incident. Many of these accidents are preventable with simple safety measures. By running this race, you help shine a light on an overlooked but urgent issue.
  • Be a Voice for Change: The Maddie’s Message Race builds momentum for stronger safety standards and pushes for industry accountability. Your participation helps raise the volume of this critical conversation and ensures that furniture safety is treated as a top priority.
  • Join a Movement That Saves Lives: Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, caregiver, or advocate, this race is your chance to be part of a community dedicated to protecting children. It’s more than a 5K—it’s a movement for safer homes and stronger families.

By running the Maddie’s Message 5K, you’re not just supporting a good cause—you’re taking meaningful steps toward a safer future for all children. Help us reach our $50,000 goal and anchor change where it starts: at home. Run for Maddie. Run for safety. Run to make a difference.

Maddie Message is an active advocate for furniture safety.  Our goal is to reduce the more than 50,000 injuries that occur each year due to furniture tip over through education and distribution of furniture straps.
