The Mile High Mile is back for its 8th season—bringing a high-energy night of racing to Boulder for runners of all ages and abilities.
This year, we’re introducing a new format designed to make the event more accessible, more flexible, and more fun—whether you're chasing a PR or just showing up to run a mile with your crew.
Two Ways to Race
1. Community Miles (Chip-Timed) – All Afternoon
We’re opening the track to everyone.
- Open to all ages and abilities, including youth runners (14 & under)
- Chip-timed results with instant finish times
- Printed finisher certificates to take home
- Rolling wave starts every ~15 minutes
- Miss your start? No problem—just jump into the next wave
This is your chance to experience the energy of the Mile High Mile in a low-pressure, high-fun environment.
2. Competitive Heats (FAT-Timed) – Late Evening
As the sun sets, the racing heats up.
- Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) for official results
- Seeded heats based on pace, including:High school races
- Open and sub-elite sections
- Elite Women’s & Men’s races to close out the night
- Athlete introductions and a true track meet atmosphere
- Yes—you can break the tape

Youth Mile
Middle School Mile
** Incoming 6th -8th graders We will most likely run both boys and girls events
High School Mile
** Incoming 9th - 12th graders We will run both boys and girls events
Open
We will run at least 2 Open events. 5:30 or slower and 5:30 and faster. If there is a huge sign up for more open events, we will separate by seed times. If you have NEVER broken 5 before and would like a special pacer and shot at this milestone, please sign up for the For the Long Run Breaking 5 wave.
For the Long Run Breaking 5
Sponsored by For The Long Run Podcast This wave is SPECIFICALLY for individuals who have NEVER broken 5 minutes in the mile before and would like a professional pacer and shot at this milestone. We promise to set the right pace and atmosphere for you to accomplish your goal. You also agree to give FTLR permission to be added to their email list.
Masters Races
Masters for this event will be defined as 40 years or older on race day.
Elite
Men's qualifying time should be 4:30 or better. The women's qualifying time should be 5:05 or better We will be running the elite events at the end of the evening under the lights of Centaurus High School Track.
Teri Leiker Memorial Mile
This is a tribute to the life of Teri Leiker who lost her life in the King Soopers shooting in March of 2021. Friends and family of Teri Leiker may run and walk for free during this time.
