Get ready to test your speed — and your patience — in this season’s Run Wild Race! Inspired by the timeless tale of The Tortoise and the Hare, this event raises awareness and funds for an endangered tortoise species in the wild.
Just like in the story, it’s not only about who’s fastest — it’s about staying steady, determined, and doing your part for wildlife conservation. Whether you sprint like the hare or pace yourself like the tortoise, every step helps protect these slow and steady survivors.
Join us at the Metro Richmond Zoo for a day of adventure, wildlife, and family fun — all while supporting the preservation of the endangered tortoises in their natural habitat.

The Run Wild 5k race will take place over 2 event to days spread out participants to allow for a social distance 5k. The race will limit the number of participants on the course by utilizing start waves of only 30 participants. Start waves will commence every 15 minutes (30 participants each wave).
Virtual Run Wild 5k
Join our race to save the fastest land animal on the planet! Even if you can’t make it to the Run Wild 5k on race day you can still be a part of the fun by participating in the Virtual Run Wild 5k. We will send you your bib number and official t-shirt. Run or walk your favorite 3.1 mile route and don't forget to submit your time so we can post your results on our website! * Zoo admission is not included with this registration * Free US shipping included
