Welcome to the nationally recognized (Runner's World Magazine-twice(!) and Competitor.com), Spook Hill Cider & Wine 4 Mile Run! UNFORTUNATELY, THE 2020 PHYSICAL EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED, BUT YOU CAN STILL RUN VIRTUALLY WITH US AND SUPPORT THE SOUTH MOUNTAIN HERITAGE SOCIETY. We have developed two separate routes that you can use via the RaceJoy app, one in Frederick and the other in Burkittsville, or you can choose to do your 4-mile run anywhere you wish, from the treadmill to the mountains! Unfortunately, most of the private portions of the official Spook Hill course are OFF LIMITS to our virtual participants.

4 Mile Anywhere

Larry Key 4-Mile

The Spook Hill RaceJoy Larry Key 4-Mile Run begins at the intersection of N. Bentz St. and Rockwell Terrace in Frederick. The out-and-back course takes you down Rockwell, W. 2nd St., and Fairview to the Baker Park multi-use path. You'll follow the path west, past Larry Key's memorial bench, cross Baughman's Ln. then turn around at the intersection of Bel Aire Lane and retrace your steps back to the start.

Burkittsville 4 Miler

*NOTE - DOGS ARE PROHIBITED ON THE DLC PROPERTY and properly worn face coverings must be worn at DLC when not running. The Burkittsville RaceJoy 4-miler starts and finishes at the Distillery Lane Ciderworks! You'll be able to park at DLC as well! The only caveat we have in using this route is that if you plan on running it on a weekday, please avoid the commuting hours and confine your run between 9 am and 3 pm. On weekends, DLC has asked us to confine participants to daylight hours only. The route: Start at the entrance gate to the fenced orchard, running clockwise (keeping the fence on your left) inside the fenced DLC orchard, exit via the gate then follow the driveway, turning left onto Gapland Rd./E. Main St. to the intersection of Catholic Church Rd., reverse course, running back into Burkittsville. Turn left onto Lake Side Dr. (first left after you pass the Ruritan entrance), follow Lake Side across MD 17 then proceed on Seminary Ln. to W. Main St. Turn right on W. Main St., cross MD 17 at the 4-way stop then follow E. Main St. You'll turn left onto Weiner Ln. (across from the Ruritan's main entrance) for a short out & back, turning around at the traffic cone placed adjacent to the last driveway on the left). Exiting Weiner Ln., turn left, and follow E. Main St. to DLC, run into and then clockwise around the inside of the orchard again, finishing your run at the entrance gate. You can park at DLC, following the parking signage, but as a reminder, dogs are prohibited and you're only allowed to use this route between 9 am and 3 pm weekdays and daylight hours on the weekend.
