Lainey's Journey | Virginia (In-Person)

Every August, families and communities around the world come together for 8,000 Steps for 8p Heroes to raise awareness, support research, and stand beside those living with 8p chromosome disorders. This year, we walk in honor of our very own 8p hero, Lainey, and the approximately 500 children around the world living with this rare condition. Lainey was born with 8p Inverted Duplication Deletion Syndrome, an ultra-rare genetic disorder that has shaped her journey in ways we never imagined. Her life has included countless appointments, therapies, challenges, and moments of uncertainty — but it has also been filled with incredible strength, love, determination, and victories that remind us just how amazing she truly is. Lainey is our hero. Every smile, every new skill, every moment of progress, and every challenge she pushes through shows us a strength far beyond what words can describe. She has taught us that every step matters — even the small ones. The 8,000 Steps for 8p Heroes campaign supports the Project 8p Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating research and improving the lives of those affected by 8p neurodevelopmental disorders. This walk is about so much more than reaching 8,000 steps. It is about raising awareness for a condition many people have never heard of, supporting families on similar journeys, funding research that brings hope for the future, and reminding children like Lainey that they are seen, valued, and loved. Whether you walk with us in person, join virtually, donate, or help share Lainey’s story, you are making an impact. Every step represents hope. Every person who joins Team Lainey helps shine a light on 8p and the incredible children who inspire us every day. Thank you for walking alongside us and celebrating our beautiful girl. Small steps. Big hope. One extraordinary little hero. 💜

Team Miciela | North Carolina (In-Person)

Date - August 15 Location - Fred G. Bond Metro Park at 9 a.m. | Meeting Point: Boathouse Miciela is music. Miciela is dancing. She is big smiles and contagious laughter. She is curiosity, and connection. She lights up when she sees people she loves. She works incredibly hard to learn, communicate, move, play, and experience the world around her. Every new skill, every new sound, movement, connection, and little victory, is something worth celebrating. We’re hosting this walk to raise awareness, build community, and celebrate Miciela’s continued development. We also want to shine a light on the many families navigating rare genetic conditions. We’re taking 8,000 steps for 8p—one step for every reason we believe in Miciela, every milestone she has fought for, and every possibility still ahead of her.

The Legend of Zaria | TBD (In-Person)

Date: August 29th 2026 Time: 9:00am Location: El Dorado East Regional Park Address: 7550 E. Spring St. Long Beach, CA 90815 Parking: Golden Grove Picnic Area The Legend of Zaria Every step we take is for Zaria; a courageous little girl whose joy, strength, and determination inspire everyone around her! Zaria is one of the rare children living with a Chromosome 8p disorder, a genetic condition that can affect development, communication, mobility, and many systems throughout the body. Like so many 8p Heroes, she works incredibly hard for milestones many of us take for granted. In fact, most 8p Heroes average an extraordinary 1,500+ hours of therapy each year on top of countless doctor appointments. With little known about 8p, advocacy and research become the best ways we can support Zaria and other Hero’s like her. Zaria's story isn't about what she can't do. It's about everything she's fighting to do and the future we're fighting to create alongside her! That's why we're building The Legend of Zaria and taking to the streets to walk 8,000 Steps for 8p on August 29, 2026. Every step raises awareness. Every donation helps Project 8p accelerate research, build resources for families, and move science closer to treatments that could change lives. Walk with us. Give with us. Share Zaria's story. We may not be able to change the chromosome Zaria was born with, but together, we can help change what an 8p diagnosis means for her future. 8,000 steps. One extraordinary girl. A future worth fighting for. Together Towards Treatment.
