A Ride with a Cause
Benzie Sunrise Rotary’s 17th annual Bike Event is now the Bike Benzie Tour. We are excited to be partnering with Crystal Mountain again to provide an exciting family event...with the same great food and after-party!
This in-person event is scheduled for Saturday, May 30 at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville, Michigan*.
This year we are offering three cycling events for your Up North adventure. For those who like to explore the highways and byways of Benzie County we are offering 62-, 40- and 30-mile routes. All are scenic and safe cycling routes with rest stops, course safety monitors and excellent SAG support. Check out the routes on this site and choose the right distance and elevations for you. This is not a race, so no pelotons.
Special registration discounts available for families of 3 or more registering together and for riders younger than 18. Great family fun!
Registration fee includes box lunch. Additional lunch is only needed for non-registrants/
Please Note: Parts of several routes are on the Betsie Valley Trail. Class 1 and Class 2 E-bikes are permitted on all routes. Also, 3-1/2 miles of the Betsie Valley Trail are crushed limestone.

45-Mile Road Tour
Note: MBRA Registered Racers depart at 9:00 Gran Fondo Riders depart at 9:30 The 48-mile road tour and race course begins with the same scenic and easy rolling hills going south from Crystal Mountain to Kaleva as with the 34-mile route. The route takes riders past farmlands, forests, lakes and rivers. At the 12-mile point, riders enter the quaint village of Kaleva, where their first rest stop awaits, and cherry pie from the Cherry Hut, at the Bethany Lutheran Church. Heading out of Kaleva the route will take you east and south through the Huron - Manistee National Forest. At Coates Highway you head west to the town of Brethren where at 29 miles there is a rest stop at the local picnic pavilion (and more cherry pie). The final stretch returning to Crystal Mountain will be a mostly flat route that takes you north through Kaleva again where, if you so choose, you can stop at the Bethany Lutheran Church. Total climb for this route is approximately 1000 feet. The course will be marked at critical turns; however, three GPS apps will be available (under construction) for download on the website, 1) Ride with GPS, 2) Strava, and 3) Map My Ride. Also, the route will be monitored by cyclist support vehicles.
62-Mile Road Tour
Note: MBRA Registered Racers depart at 9:00 Gran Fondo Riders depart at 9:30 The 62-mile road tour and race course features some of the area's best cycling roads and views. The route heads south from Crystal Mountain toward the town of Kaleva. There’s a rest stop at the 12-mile mark at the Bethany Lutheran Church. The route then heads east on Nine Mile Road and South through the Huron-Manistee National Forest. Once on Coates Road you head west to the town of Brethren where there will be a rest stop at the 29-mile mark. The ride then continues south to River Road which winds west along the beautiful Bear Creek. Then it’s north bound along the beautiful and challenging Chief Road. At the 41-mile mark is a rest stop at Northern Naturals. After consuming more cherry pie (your choice) you finish the course on Chief Road and Healy Lake Road to Crystal Mountain Resort. Total climb is approximately 1700 feet. The course will be marked with road surface arrows at critical turns; also, three GPS apps will be available (under construction) for download on the website, 1) Ride with GPS, 2) Strava, and 3) Map My Ride. The route will be monitored with cyclist support vehicles.
30-Mile Road Tour
Note: MBRA Registered Racers depart at 9:00 Gran Fondo Riders depart at 9:30 The 34-mile road tour and race course offers scenic rolling hills going south and east from Crystal Mountain traveling through the quaint village of Kaleva. Your rest stop awaits you at 12 miles at the Bethany Lutheran Church, across the street from the historic Kaleva Bottle House & Museum. Cherry pie from the Cherry Hut awaits you. The return back to Crystal Mountain travels east on Nine Mile Road and Yates Road where you experience some rolling hills. Total climb is only 500 feet. The course will be marked at critical turns; however, three GPS apps will be available (under construction) for download on the website, 1) Ride with GPS, 2) Strava, and 3) Map My Ride. Also, the route will be monitored by cyclist support vehicles.
