About this race
What a great way to start any 4th of July by supporting northern Wisconsin area veterans or veteran organizations AND getting outside for a walk or run! This event really checks the boxes for an outdoor 5K run or 1-mile fun run/walk in the north woods. Join us for this morning's adventure. So, get let's gather with your friends and family! Have some fun! Get your smile on! Revel in gratitude!
Events take place at the MECCA trail system in Mercer, Wisconsin.
Join fellow runners on July 4, 2020 for the Run For A Vet. It's a fantastic 5K, 1.6K featuring a flat and fast course in Mercer.

Trail running
5K Run (In Person)
This 5K race takes place on a dirt road and trail. The trail has minor topography change and one heart-pumping hill.The 5K event will be chip timed with awards given to - Top Male / Female - Male / Female Age Groups <=9, 10-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ (for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place). Race entry rates for Children (10 and younger) is applied during check out. The Start will send a group of 5 people out at 10 second intervals--start time will be made according to bib number. We will post the start time list for you at bib pick up and before the race. The start time list will be based on previous race knowledge. Families may be started in a same group. Once across the Finish line, you will receive your completion bag filled with a bottle of water, a pair of running socks, Run for a Vet race goodies, and other swag. We will need to move you through the finish line area. We will post race times as soon as possible on the Performance Timing LLC webiste (performancetiming.com) Top female and male winners, will receive their trophy shortly after they finish. Other medal winners will receive their medals in the mail. Raffle gifts donated by Sponsors will be randomly placed in finish line bags. Check to see if you are a lucky winner! T-shirts must be pre-ordered by June 20. The ordered T-shirt will be given to you when you pick up your bib. Children (10 years and younger) will receive their medals in their finish line bag; however, medals are not guaranteed to late registrants. The race course may be relocated if the trail is deemed unfit by the race course director. If the race is unable to be carried out due to COVID-19 guidelines, participants will be moved to the virtual challenge. Because social distancing, self quarantine guidelines may tighten, the Run for a Vet 5K race may need to implement changes with little notice. We appreciate everyone's understanding.
Walking
1 Mile Fun Walk (In Person)
This is a 1-mile fun run/walk ideal for any age and great to participate in with family and friends. This fun run/walk starts on pavement and quickly moves into a relatively flat dirt road and trail. Race entry rates for Children (10 and younger) is applied during check out. In general, the fun run/walk participants start immediately behind the 5K participants, so about 4 minutes after the 5k-ers start. We will start in groups of 5 people at 10 second intervals. The start list time for your bib will be available during bib pick up and before the race. In general, we will assign bib start time using previous race knowledge and start families in a group. Once across the Finish line, you will receive your completion bag filled with a bottle of water, a pair of running socks, Run for a Vet race goodies, and other swag. We will actively move you through the finish line area. Raffle gifts donated by Sponsors will be randomly placed in finish line bags--you may be a lucky winner! Running
Virtual Challenge
This Virtual Challenge allows you to challenge yourself to complete a 5 K or 1 mile fun run/walk where you want AND contribute to the Run for a Vet race charity. Simply, sign up and complete the 5K run or 1-mile fun run/walk from June 15 to July 4. Once you've completed your time, upload the date of completion and your completion time to the Performance Timing website (performancetiming.com). Stay tuned for update on posting (time, Strava) to the results page of Performance Timing. Upon completion, we will mail you your finish line bag containing a pair of running socks, Run for a Vet race goodies, race completion notice, and other swag. Mailing of bling will be done the Monday following your uploaded completion date (to July 6). Children (10 years and younger) will receive a medal with their completion bag. T-shirts must be pre-ordered by June 20 through the Store tab. Pre-ordered T-shirts will be mailed with your completion bag of bling. Virtual challengers are not eligible to receive race medals from the in-person timed event.
