The YMCA of Greater Spartanburg proudly unleashes the 45th Annual Hair of the Dog 10K, 5-Mile & 1-Mile Fun Run—the ultimate New Year's Day tradition!
Join the pack on January 1st, 2027 at the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA and kick off the new year the right way. Lace up with your furry co-pilot (leashed dogs welcome!) and sprint, jog, or stroll your way into 2027 with unstoppable energy. Whether you're chasing a PR or just chasing your tail, let's start the year strong—together!
Now in its 45th year, this beloved Spartanburg tradition brings runners, walkers, and four-legged friends together across three distances—the 10K, the 5K, and the family-friendly 1-Mile Dash—all starting and finishing on Ribault Street. Bring the whole family, shake off the holidays, and make your first miles of the year count.

Join fellow runners on January 1, 2026 for the Ymca Hair of the Dog Run. It's a fantastic 10K, 1.6K, 5K, Breakfast only featuring a flat and fast course in Spartanburg.

10K (6.2 Mile) Run
The scenic 6.2-miler rolls through some of the most historic neighborhoods in Spartanburg and has been a tradition for over 43 years. Registration includes admission to our breakfast that will be in our gym and if you register by 12/11/25 you will receive a Hair of the Dog themed long-sleeved quarter-zip that celebrates the 44th annual run included with your registration! Gather in the GYM at the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA at 8:30 am on race day. The 10K starts on Norwood Street (across from the YMCA front entrance at 9:00 am!!
1 Mile Dash
Join us for the exciting 1-Mile Dash, perfect for kids and kids at heart, taking place on the scenic Mary Black Rail Trail that runs right by the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA. If you register by 12/11/25 you will receive a Hair of the Dog themed long-sleeved quarter-zip that celebrates the 44th annual run included with your registration, but all race registrations will include a delicious hot breakfast served after the event to refuel and celebrate!! Gather in the gym of the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA by 8:45 AM on race day for check-in and bib pickup, with the run kicking off promptly at 9:00 AM on the flat, stroller-friendly Rail Trail. This fun, family-oriented event welcomes runners of all ages—little ones, parents with strollers, grandparents, coaches, and YMCA friends alike!
5K (3.1 Mile) Run
The 3.1-mile course follows the 10K course and then turns back to the YMCA. Registration includes admission to our breakfast that will be in our gym, and if you register by 12/11/25 you will receive a Hair of the Dog themed long-sleeved quarter-zip that celebrates the 44th annual run included with your registration!! Gather in the gym of the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA by 9:00 AM on race day for check-in and bib pickup, with the run kicking off promptly at 9:15 AM on Norwood Street (across from the YMCA front entrance).
Breakfast only
Secure your spot at the post-run celebration with this Breakfast Ticket for the January 1st Hair of the Dog 1-Mile Run! Enjoy a hearty, hot breakfast served immediately after the event inside the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA. Ticket is valid only on January 1st—perfect for refueling with family, friends, and fellow runners after shaking off the New Year’s Eve festivities. Breakfast included for all registered runners; this ticket is for spectators and supporters!!
