SVR Winter Series #3- Pizza or Resolutions 5K @ Skyline High School
SVR is serving up hills for breakfast while Fox's Pizza Den in Front Royal will be serving pizza for dessert. https://www.foxspizza.com/store/virginia/front-royal-va/ Will you fulfill a New Year health and fitness resolution by crushing the 5K and leaving satisfied or will you embrace the cheese and pepperoni? This is a loop course that travels on paved streets and mixed surface pedestrian walkways. We will have course marshals at major intersections but streets will remain open to vehicular traffic. SVR Winter Series #4 - 60 Minutes at MSV
How far can you go in 60 minutes? We’ve mapped out a 1-mile loop on the trails at MSV. You have 60 minutes to complete as many laps as possible. Only completed laps will count. For Winter Series scoring the runner who does the most laps is the winner. If there is a tie in laps, the runner who completed the most laps, in the least amount of time, is the winner. This is a loop course that travels on paved streets and compacted gravel pedestrian walkways. We will have course marshals at major intersections but streets will remain open to vehicular traffic. SVR Winter Series #5 - 4 Miles at Summit Point
This race will take us to Summit Point Motorsports Park for race on a literal race track! The race will include a full lap of both the Summit Point Circuit and Jefferson Circuit. Who will get the checkered flag and the win? This will be a flat and fast course. SVR Winter Series #6 - Heart & Soles 5K @ Middletown
Virginia is for lovers and Valentine's Day is approaching. Run a 5K around Middletown to get your heart racing and give some soles to two local charities. Our goal is to collect 100 pairs of new shoes and 100 pairs of used shoes! We are collecting new shoe donations for local children supported by Froggy's Closet. Athletic style shoes preferred (all toddler sizes and big kid/adult sizes 8 and under). Add a pair now to your online shopping cart or note it on your shopping list for your next trip to the store. Every child deserves to have good shoes. We also want your used running shoes which we will use to raise money for Blue Ridge Hospice through Runners' Retreat and the Sneakers4Good program. To be accepted, shoes should be clean, dry, and wearable. SVR Winter Series #7 - Gambler 5K @ 3rd Winchester Battlefield
The Winter Series is scored on your 6 best finishes in the 8 race series. At this point in the series you are probably recognizing your competition and thinking about how the final series scoring might look. With this race we will try and shake up the series results a bit. The main racecourse will be a 5K on the dirt and gravel trails through the battlefield. During the race runners will encounter three opportunities to take a detour. Each detour will add approximately 0.15 mile to the overall race distance but will provide runners the opportunity to collect a raffle ticket from a course marshal on the detour. At the end of the race SVR will raffle off several prizes including a gift certificate for a new pair of shoes from Runners’ Retreat. Will you take the fast route and stay on course to protect your overall Winter Series score or will you gamble by taking a detour to get a raffle ticket and risk getting passed by the competition? The Third Battle of Winchester, fought on September 19, 1864, was the largest and costliest battle ever fought in the Shenandoah Valley. More than 54,000 men fought and over 8,600 became casualties in a ferocious see-saw struggle that saw the Confederates gradually forced back until a final decisive attack by Federal infantry and cavalry struck the Confederate left flank, breaching the defenders’ lines, and sending the Confederates “whirling through Winchester”. Special thanks to the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation for preserving this land and hosting the race.
SVR Winter Series #8 - Ram Run 5K @ Strasburg High School
The final race in the Winter Series! This is a mixed surface loop course that takes you along the river, through downtown Strasburg and around the high school. We will have course marshals at major intersections but streets will remain open to vehicles. SVR Winter Series #1 - South Berkeley Christmas 5K
Your registration into the full Winter Series includes registration for the South Berkeley Christmas 5K. Although this race is not directly organized by SVR we are happy to continue to partner with the Race Directors Mark and Aimee Peters to include it in the Winter Series. SVR will be at the event expo on Sunday to complete Winter Series registration and distribute swag items. This race starts at 2pm but please arrive no later than 1pm to navigate road closures, parking, registration and tour the expo. Registration closes at 1:45pm so our volunteers can transition to the race course. This 5K race starts before the South Berkeley Christmas Parade and all proceeds benefit The Berkeley County Humane Society. The course follows along the parade route so there will be plenty of cheering spectators. This course is flat and fast making it a good race to try and set a new PR! Results for this race will be recorded using both a chip-time start and a chip-time finish. This is a Christmas 5K and the Race Directors encourage runners to dress for the occasion. Let's see those ugly sweaters, Santa suits and reindeer antlers! Since this race benefits the Berkeley County Humane Society the Race Directors also invite well behaved dogs to run the race! Dogs are not allowed in Winter Series races 2 through 8 so take advantage of this unique opportunity! Because SVR is able to register Winter Series runners in the South Berkeley 5K at a significantly reduced rate, a South Berkeley 5K shirt is not included with your Winter Series registration. SVR Winter Series #2 - Jingle Bell 5K @ Blandy Experimental Farm
Join us for what is often the biggest race of the Winter Series. Come dressed in your finest holiday sweater. We will supply bells to tie on your shoes and you'll make them ring as you circle the grounds of the Virginia State Arboretum. This is a loop course on wide gravel roads with just enough rolling hills to make it exciting. Although most of the course is within Blandy Farm and on low-speed gravel roads, it is not a closed course.
