The Cook Medical Beat the Heat 5K has been one of the most popular races in North Carolina for more than 30 years!. It has been selected multiple times by Endurance Magazine as the best 5K in Triad NC and was featured in Running Journal magazine as the #1 “Under the Radar” race in the South. Beat the Heat is a charity event with proceeds going to local non-profits that support health and fitness in the community.

Running
One Mile Family Fun Run
This event is open to anyone, and is especially conducive for families, children, and walkers. Individual times are not recorded for this event. All finishers receive a ribbon and trophies are awarded for the top finishers 14 years old or younger.
Beat the Heat 5K Run
This is the regular 5K race for all runners except the NC USATF 5K Championship competitors. This event is for all runners competing for age group awards. Prize money is not offered for this event.
NC USATF 5K Championship
This event is exclusive for the NC USATF 5K Championship competitors. Participants must have an active USATF number and meet the NC USATF Championship requirements (must be full time 12 month resident of NC and a member of the USATF North Carolina Association.)
