The Cook Medical Beat the Heat 5K has been one of the most popular races in North Carolina for more than 30 years!. It has been selected multiple times by Endurance Magazine as the best 5K in Triad NC and was featured in Running Journal magazine as the #1 “Under the Radar” race in the South. Beat the Heat is a charity event with proceeds going to local non-profits that support health and fitness in the community.

Pick your distance
Running
Family Fun Run
A great event for those who desire a shorter distance or less competitive fun run. Distance will be no more than 1 mile.
Youth Mile Race
This is a competitive mile for youth ages 13 and under. It will begin simultaneous with the Fun Run.
BTH 5K Ainsley's Angels
Beat the Heat 5K Run
This is the main event! It also a very inclusive event with all types of runners from sub-20 minute 5K racers to 45+ minutes. Everyone is treated to a great race experience. Several hundred runners will participate.
Elite/NC USATF 5K Championship - Women
This is a separate race for elite runners and serves as the NC USATF 5K Championship. To be eligible for USATF awards and prize money, athletes must be a current USATF NC member and a 12-month resident of North Carolina. Elite runners may participate as award ineligible participants.
Elite/NC USATF 5K Championship - Men
This is a separate race for elite runners and serves as the NC USATF 5K Championship. To be eligible for USATF awards and prize money, athletes must be a current USATF NC member and a 12-month resident of North Carolina. Elite runners may participate as award ineligible participants.
Beat the Heat Virtual 5K
Run your own race at a location and start time that works for you. This event is for all levels of runners and walkers. All submitted results will be posted along with age group results for the fastest finishers..
One Mile Virtual Fun Run
This event is open to anyone, and is especially conducive for families, children, and walkers. Complete your 1 one mile fun run at a location and start time that meets your needs. Individual times can be posted for all finishers.
Walking
Beat the Heat 5K Walk
This is the event for those who want to go the 5K distance, but prefer a more pedestrian pace. You'll get a 10 minute head start on the 5K runners. Recommended for anyone that expects to take 50 minutes or more to go 5K distance.
